Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has unveiled a new feature for Instagram Threads, allowing users to delete their profiles independently of their Instagram accounts. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, revealed that based on user feedback, Threads now offers the option to disable automatic sharing of posts to other platforms, including Instagram and Facebook.
“We’re introducing a feature that enables you to delete your Threads profile without affecting your Instagram account,” Mosseri announced on Threads.
To delete your Threads profile, navigate to Settings, then Account, and select the option to Delete or Deactivate Profile.
Alternatively, if you prefer not to permanently remove your Threads profile, deactivation remains an option.
Additionally, the platform recently introduced a feature enabling users to view Threads posts directly on Facebook and Instagram, facilitating audience expansion and reach growth.
“In response to user feedback requesting greater control over the experience, we’re implementing a feature to opt out of being featured outside Threads,” Mosseri stated.
According to Meta’s Founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, Threads has now surpassed 100 million monthly active users.
Mosseri also revealed that the company is developing a Threads application programming interface (API) to empower developers in creating diverse apps and experiences around the platform. However, he expressed concerns regarding a potential influx of publisher content at the expense of creator-generated content.
“We’re actively working on it. My apprehension lies in the possibility of an abundance of publisher content overshadowing creator-generated content, but it’s still a necessary step,” Mosseri added.
