Tinder has announced a significant update to its safety protocols, requiring members to submit a selfie video to strengthen the Photo Verification process. This move aims to ensure that the individuals depicted in profile photos are indeed the users themselves.
Additionally, the dating app now allows photo-verified members to request selfie videos from their matches before initiating conversations. Members who have completed the Photo Verification process can opt to receive messages exclusively from other verified members by adjusting their Message Settings accordingly.
The rollout of the video selfie feature for Photo Verification is effective immediately on a global scale. Furthermore, the option to filter messages to include only those from verified members will be gradually introduced in the coming months.
Rory Kozoll, the Senior Vice President of Product Integrity at Tinder, emphasized the importance of photo verification as a safety measure, citing feedback from users who value this feature. According to Kozoll, being photo-verified enhances the chances of matching, particularly among members aged 18 to 25.
Furthermore, Tinder revealed that nearly 40% of its members have already obtained the coveted Photo Verified blue checkmark, indicating their completion of the verification process.
In response to early testing results indicating increased participation among male users when video selfies were introduced, Tinder has decided to prompt all new members to undergo Photo Verification during profile creation.
These measures reflect Tinder’s ongoing commitment to prioritizing user safety and authenticity within its platform.
